St. Joseph's Hospital was headline news 47 years ago, too.

The announcement that appeared in the Comox District Free Press of December 25, 1963 must have felt like a Christmas wish come true.

According to the Comox District Free Press July 7, 1993 St. Joseph's General Hospital Commemorative Edition "...the project began with controversy in 1965 when municipal officials and the Sisters could not come to terms over who would pay for the expansion. A deal was eventually struck and St. Joseph's became Comox's regional hospital." The building was officially opened June 14, 1967.
