Welcome to the Courtenay and District Museum and Palaeontology Centre, Courtenay, Vancouver Island. For over 45 years we've been keen about the natural and cultural heritage of the breathtaking Comox Valley, located on the shores of the Strait of Georgia - and we like to show it off.

Are we serious about what we do? You bet - science, academic research, interpretation, preservation - and having fun!

Be our guest to find out why the Comox Valley - past and present, is one of the most plentiful places on earth. Take a fossil tour and travel 80 million years back in time; browse our galleries to delve into the stories that make our history come alive.

Enjoy Capes Escape, the Courtenay Museum's 1930s style home located on 7 acres connected to Capes Park, just 4 kms from Highway 19 and minutes from downtown Courtenay. Named after Katherine Capes, a Founder and Patron of the Courtenay and District Museum, this 1700 sq.ft. family home makes a perfect stay for those who want a value-added rest amid tall firs, pines, cedars and Capes family gardens.

Lecture: Exploring a Forgotten Coastline
Come and explore a little known part of the BC coast with historian Jeanette Taylor. Taylor's illustrated presentation, based upon her books and tours aboard the historic Columbia III, will provide a rare view of the islands and inlets of the inner coast between North Vancouver Island and the mainland.

July 1st to the Fall
Exhibit: Natural Bounty
Living off the land, past and present, is explored in this exhibition of photos, artifacts and products related to settlement and agricultural life in the Comox Valley, also known in early exhibition fairs as the "Valley of Plenty".

September 2011 to May 2012
Programmes: Science and Nature Discovery
This exciting, hands-on programme is geared for home-learners, ages 5-12. All students are provided with the same course material and information. Children are encouraged to draw and label scientific diagrams and to read and write at their own personal levels.
