-Portrait-

Ichthyosaur taxonomy is currently a very controversial subject. Some authors have divided them into two groups based upon the shapes of their limbs: the latipinnates (wide-paddles), and the longipinnates (long-paddles), while others have further divided them into a number of families. Of these families, only the Shastasauridae is presently known to extend through the Upper Triassic, so it is at least possible that the indeterminate ichthyosaur material from both Holberg and near Sprout Lake may belong to it.
