   The Lamnidae are characterized by having a sharp snout, jaws that can be thrust slightly forward to engage prey, and a crescent-shaped dorsal fin, made so popular by Hollywood. Their teeth are usually quite large, are of the tearing or cutting variety, and usually lack serrations, though this is not the rule. Squalicorax is known from a great many Cretaceous and Paleocene sites.
