About the story:

Ever since the Trask's amazing discovery in 1988, thousands of children and adults have learned about and participated in Courtenay Musuem's palaeontology programs, and discovered for themselves Vancouver Island's oceanic prehistory.

A large group of local volunteers led by Mike Trask and palaeontologist Rolf Ludvigsen excavated the elasmosaur in 1991, and the reconstructed skeleton of this massive marine reptile is now hanging in the museum's gallery.
